John B. Pillatsch is a California-licensed Cerrtified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 30 years of experience in public accounting, industry, and academia. John graduated from Aurora (Illinois) University with the BA in Accounting and then completed his Master of Accounting Science (MAS) degree at Northern Illinois University, where he was also a graduate teaching assistant. He passed the CPA examination while attending graduate school and then started his career as a staff auditor with Ernst & Young, a Big 4 accounting firm in Chicago. During his five years with E&Y, John served a variety of publicly traded and privately owned clients performing financial and information system audits and managing large multi-location engagements. After E&Y, John spent three years in corporate finance with Kraft Foods in Glenview, Illinois designing and implementing multi-dimensional financial planning models and exeuctive information systems. Leveraging his experience with decision support systems, John returned to public accounting where he served two years as a consulting manager with Price Waterhouse in Chicago working on financial modeling engagements for a major money center bank and a Fortune 50 aerospace and automotive component manufacturer.
John followed his passion for teaching throughout his career, serving as a corporate trainer and part-time accounting instructor, and after leaving PW, serving for two years as a full-time professor at DeVry University in Addison, Illinois. John spent the next 12 years as a controller and CFO for an international alliance of Christian churches, eventually relocating to Los Angeles where he also led small group ministries. It was during this time that John established a small, part-time practice assisting individuals with tax preparation and financial planning. John spent the next 12 years in various leadership roles with Becker Professional Education, the largest provider of CPA examination review courses, where he also taught CPA review and financial accounting classes for Keller Graduate School of Management.
In January 2018, John and his wife Larissa, relocated full-time to their ranch home in the Tehachapi Mountains, about two hours north of Los Angeles, where John is now focused on expanding his tax and accounting services practice. As a licensed CPA and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), John stays current on tax laws and accounting pronouncements through 40 hours per year of continuing professional education.
John and Larissa, a special education teaching assistant for LAUSD, have five adult children and three grandchildren. They enjoy spending time on their property which is home to a variety of wildlife and plan to begin raising some critters of their own. John is also an avid road cyclist having completed several century rides and two editions of the Tehachapi Gran Fondo.
